Energy Saving Tips for Your Holiday Party

The holiday season is upon us. With all of the money you’ve spent on gifts this year, it’s safe to say you want to keep your energy bill to a minimum. If you are hosting your family get-together this year, don’t sweat it. There are still plenty of opportunities for you to save:

Holiday Decorations

  • Utilize LED light bulbs. Decorations that use LED light bulbs can use up to 80% less energy. Even better, look for decorations that don’t require any energy at all – such as wreaths, nutcrackers, garland, or candles.
  • Prevent “phantom” energy. Many devices still draw electricity even when they are turned off. Unplug your electronics when they are not in use to prevent this “phantom” energy from racking up your utility bill.
  • Limit secondary lighting. If your Christmas tree shines bright, turn off the other lights in the room. Not only will this save energy, it will make your tree look even more impressive.
